Olympic agony for Shakira Whight

June 28, 2012

Reading athlete Shakira Whight has narrowly missed out on a place in the Great Britain squad for the Olympics.

But at least she secured a consolation prize at the Aviva trials in Birmingham last weekend.

The young triple jumper finished third with a leap of 13.30 metres, which was a personal best.

The Brunel University student said: Its disappointing not to have qualified for the Olympics, but Im thrilled to have won the bronze medal as I was up against the toughest competition in the country.

I will now start to focus on the 2016 Olympics.

Whight became the first woman to win a triple jump competition at the London Olympic Stadium when she took the British Universities title last month.
