You'll be sweet on Shakira

Adorable Shakira would love to dance her way into your life and put a song in your heart.

Just like a celebrity, this 2-year-old Chihuahua mix attracts a lot of attention from visitors with her heart-melting face and tiny, 9-pound body. Shakira is housebroken, crate-trained and knows a couple of commands. In her previous home, Shakira lived with three other Chihuahuas and she enjoyed the company of a cat.

This gentle lady is just a little bashful when meeting new faces, but all she needs is a bit of encouragement and a gentle touch. Before you know it, Shakira will find her way into your lap to plant sweet kisses on your face. Shakira's personality will blossom in a quiet home with owners who have an open heart and snuggly laps just waiting to be filled.

Shakira is available for adoption today at our off-site adoption center, That Fish Place, That Pet Place, 237 Centerville Road. Off-site adoption hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 3-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Many of our available animals at the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, can also be viewed online at humaneleague.com. Regular shelter hours are 3-8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and noon-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The shelter is closed Wednesday and Sunday. Call the league at 393-6551.

From July10-16, the league received 51 dogs and 82 cats. Twenty-two dogs and 35 cats were adopted; nine stray dogs were reclaimed by their owners. Three dogs and four cats were transferred to other rescue organizations. Previously featured cat Aster has been adopted.

If you are unable to adopt, but still have an animal-shaped hole in your heart, fostering is a very unique and rewarding opportunity to consider. The league has an ongoing need for foster families for kittens! as well as medium- to large-breed dogs.
