Shakira May Be Included In the 2012 Time 100

Fans of Shakira will find out of she ison 2012 Time 100 on April 17.

Colombian singer Shakira was nominated to be included in the 2012 TIME 100.

Voting for inclusion in the Time 100 issue has closed, and after the publications editors select the final 100, they will be revealed on Tuesday, April 17.

Shakira, 35, was nominated for her singing career and philanthropy. According to Time, "she's become a Bono-like figure in a region that desperately needs one. Shakira's ALAS Foundation has done more than dole out charity it has inspired reluctant Latin moguls, not known for their generosity, to get on board with meaningful projects in areas like education and initiatives that promote early childhood development."

Among her many efforts to give back, in 1995, she founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, which helps support schools for poor children all around Colombia. The name of the foundation is taken from Shakira's third studio album called "Pies Descalzos."

Other nominees on the 2012 Time 100 included 78-year-old Sheldon Adelson, a Republican donor; Ai Weiwei, Chinese artist, activist and architect; and Anonymous, which Time lists its age as indeterminate and its occupation as a shadowy, loose-knit cadre of hackers--it isn't a person.

Time's 2011 list included Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder; Angela Merkel, the fi! rst fema le Chancellor of Germany; and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg

In November 2011, she was the first Colombian personality to receive a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Just 3 percent of the 2,345 entertainers honored on the Walk of Fame are of Latin heritage, including Gloria Estefan, Andy Garcia and Enrique Iglesias, HispanicBusiness reported in late 2008.
