Tribute planned for Shakira as the Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year

Popular Latin recording artists like Pepe Aguilar and Alejandra Guzmn are joining many other artists from around the world to pay tribute to the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, the beautiful and talented Shakira.

Shakira, the three-time Latin Grammy nominee, seven-time Latin Grammy winner, and two-time Grammy winner was announced the Latin Recording Academys Person of the Year in September. The tribute to Shakira will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on November 9, 2011, a day before the 12th Annual Latin Grammy awards held at the same location. The celebration will pay tribute to Shakiras work as an artist and socially aware philanthropist.

The Latin Recording Academy is an international organization with Spanish- and Portugese-speaking members of the music industry.

A portion of the proceeds collected at the event will benefit Shakiras Pies Descalzos Foundation and The Latin Recording Academys Latin Grammy in the Schools educational effort. The philanthropic singer founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation when she was only 18. The Foundation helps underprivileged children back in her home country of Colombia.

Shakira will be the youngest Latin artist to claim the title of The Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year at the age of 34. Other artists to have claimed the title include Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana.

According to the Huffington Post, Shakira is being nominated for Latin Album of the Year.

The inspirational Latin artist has also been chosen by Latina magazine as one of the 15 Latinas We Love.

The star-studded celebration will be attended by the President/! CEO of T he Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa, Jr., as well as other VIPs of the company. There will be a dinner followed by the tribute presentation and concert.
